…but first coffee: My not so serious Coffee Chronicles

The following content may contain a serious dose of humor, sarcasm, and an unabashed love for coffee. Proceed with caution, and grab a cup of coffee to join the fun!

As a seasoned leader with over 30 years of experience in interim and procurement roles, my journey in leadership has been fueled by more than just ambition—it’s been powered by the dark elixir we affectionately call coffee.

Picture this: the crack of dawn, the office shrouded in darkness, and my mind already buzzing with thoughts of strategy and efficiency. Enter coffee, my trusty sidekick, brewed to perfection, its aroma signaling the start of another day at the helm.

But why coffee, you may ask? It’s not just about the caffeine boost; it’s about the ritual, the variety, and yes, the twisted humor. As an infamous coffee maniac, I’ve learned to appreciate the nuances of espresso, the velvety texture of a flat white, and the cardinal sin of cappuccino after noon (a rule ingrained in my Italian DNA, and strictly enforced with a touch of morbid satisfaction).

“Rule no. 1: No coffee – no me, cause coffee is running thru my veins! #sorrynotsorry”

– Claus Triolo, Holistic Procurement Executive & Rainmaker Notorious Coffeeholic

From early morning espresso shots to pre-midday flat whites, coffee fuels my leadership journey, offering clarity in chaos and a moment of grim amusement in the daily grind. Without it, the journey of leadership would be far less caffeinated, and dare I say, far less amusingly macabre.

Coffee isn’t just a beverage; it’s a lifeline, a source of sustenance, and perhaps, dare I say, a secret weapon. Behind every successful person is a substantial amount of coffee, silently propelling them forward through the highs and lows of leadership.

Yet, amidst the chaos and caffeine-fueled frenzy, there’s a certain poetry to be found in the simplicity of a cup of coffee. It’s a moment of pause in a world that never stops moving, a chance to savor the present and recharge for the challenges ahead.

So here’s to coffee: the unsung hero of leadership, the fuel that propels us forward, and the punchline to our daily tragedies in the world of business. Because in the grand scheme of things, when faced with the existential dread of leadership, there’s only one logical response: … but first, coffee.

Whether you’re a fellow coffee aficionado or a curious observer, I invite you to raise your mug and join me in celebrating the magic of coffee in leadership. Here’s to embracing the darkness, one cup at a time.

And as we sip our coffee and ponder the mysteries of leadership, let us remember the words of an unknown sage: “Behind every successful person is a substantial amount of coffee, and perhaps a few coffee stains on their shirt.”

“I survived another meeting that should have been an email”
